The FIXIN Range

Locking plates have become the gold standard for the fixation of complex fractures, as they combine stable fixation with anatomic articular reduction, help to reduce soft tissue dissection and allow early mobilisation.

The FIXIN range includes a wide variety of plates designed for different indications including traumatology, corrective osteotomies, and tarsus and carpus arthrodesis and panarthrodesis.

The Fixin system provides 2 series of internal fixators:

the mini system, developed for small dogs up to 10 Kg and cats, accommodates 1,9mm and 2,5mm screws that fit the same small silver insert (same screw-heads therefore same screwdriver) and

the medium series, developed for medium, large and giant dogs accommodates 3,0mm and 3,5 mm screws that fit the same medium blue insert (same crew-heads therefore same screwdriver).

The unique locking mechanism ensures fracture stability whilst avoiding pressure on the bone, preserving vascularity and accelerating the return of mobility and function. After fixing the locking screws in a TraumaVet plate, a stable system is created which is similar to an external fixator from a mechanical point of view and quite different from a traditional screw-plate system.

Because of these unique mechanical properties, TraumaVet plates provide a new and original osteosynthesis technique for effective and stable fixation of fractures.

Patented screw locking mechanism

Traditional locking plates use a threaded screw-plate locking system. TraumaVet screws have a 2° conical head which locks into a corresponding 2° tapered cone in the bushings, which are pre-assembled on the plate. This coupling eliminates the risk of cross threading between the screw and plate and ensures a simple operative technique. It also permits easy removal of the screws, whether because they have been placed incorrectly intra- operatively, or for later removal of the plate.

It is an extremely stable coupling, which effectively transfers loads through the structure and reduces the risk of screws backing out or plate breakage.

Instruments

TraumaVet instrument sets are composed by a low number of items, are simple to use and easy to prepare for surgery.

Drill guide - To allow proper matching between the conical head of the screw and the conical hole of the insert a special drill-guide has been developed The drill guide has a tapered cone and fits directly and securely into the bushes on each plate allowing the surgeon working with both hands.

Temporary stabilization - During the drilling phase the plate needs to be secured to the bone cortex to achieve the conical coupling. This can be done by conventional bone-clamps , with temporary conventional screws, with pins inserted through appropriate plate’s holes, or with pins inserted through the drill-guide and temporary secured with pin- stops.

The Impla
nt

Support - It consists of a support with threaded holes where inserts (bushings) can be screwed into.

Insert - These are externally threaded, to be screwed into the support. The inner hole of the insert is conical to lodge the head of the screw.

Screws - The screw is a selfthreading, self blocking screw with angular stability. The screw’s head is conical, perfectly complementary with the cone shaped hole of the insert.

Features and benefits

  1. The unique conical screw-plate locking system ensures the distribution of force throughout the structure, eliminating the risk of implant breakage and screws backing out.

  1. The patented locking system allows easy locking of the screw in the plate and eliminates the possibility of cross- threading the screw head in the plate.

  1. Easy exchange and removal of screws if needed.

  1. Simple and intuitive instruments for reduced surgery times.

  1. Periosteum is left intact to preserve the vascularisation.

  1. Plate thickeness range from 1,2mm to 2mm in the mini series and from 1,5mm to 3mm in the medium series allows a minimally invasive approach.
